Walk-in Metal Chicken Coop: Large Affordable Hen House Review Jenny Graham, November 7, 2023November 16, 2023 Large Metal Chicken Coop for Outdoor Use As a small poultry farm owner (and when I say small, I mean small) I’m always looking to save some cash. This large metal chicken coop definitely fits the bill. Not only is it my new hen house, I also converted one into a mobile chicken house for my pastured poultry. Jump to an up-close view of our metal chicken coop for pastured poultry. Strong Steel Frame for your Metal Chicken Coop This large Affordable Metal Chicken Coop uses a high-quality steel pipe frame. That, coupled with galvanizing technology, means you don’t have to worry about rust. The steel pipe diameter reaches 0.98 inches, which is strong and stable enough in windy and heavy rain. Overall Dimension for this Hen House The coop size is 13.2’ L×9.84’ W× 6.4’ H. It is also available in different sizes. The large walk-in poultry house is a spacious area perfect for a hen house or duck coop. We did make a few modifications to also make it into a mobile chicken house. High Quality Steel Frame This large metal chicken coop is a sturdy structure. It is sure to keep every chicken safe from the elements. It’s sturdily constructed lock frame and steel wire ties will keep your feathered friends happy and secure. Large Metal Chicken Coop with Easy Installation and Quick Assembly When it says quick assembly, they aren’t kidding. We were able to put the frame of this chicken coop together within minutes. It came with a complete set of components. This includes a sun-protective cover, ground stakes, hexagonal wire mesh, zip ties, wire ties, gloves, and installation and instruction manuals. The snap-pin connect frame goes together with straightforward instructions. Quick-connect Frame for Easy Assembly The simple instructions will have the frame together in no time. Since we were making this into a mobile chicken house, we did add self-tapping screws to every location where there was a snap-pin connect. This helped to strengthen and make this large chicken coop sturdier. Anti-Ultraviolet Cover and Waterproof Cover for Rainy Days While the cover is somewhat small and only covers the back end of the chicken coop, it is waterproof. It is lighter in color and a smaller size, so it doesn’t provide a whole lot of shade. This is where I love to recycle trampoline mats, which my kids go through like crazy. They make a fantastic addition to the top of any chicken coop to provide a large, ventilated area of shade. PVC Dip-Coated Wire Mesh for Peace of Mind While the provided wire mesh roll to wrap around the heavy-duty metal frame will provide some security for your hen house, it isn’t the strongest. It works on my farm for predator protection, only because I have livestock guardian dogs that are in the pasture with my chickens. If you are concerned about predators, you may want to use hardware cloth instead of the hexagonal wire mesh. Here’s Olive, my best LGD, doing her job. LGDs are on of the best animals to protect chickens. Metal Latch Door The door of the walk-in poultry cage gives you easy in and out access to your chickens, while still keeping your chicken coop door secure. The door swings easily, both in and out but does have small gaps between the door and the frame. The metal latch door could be easily converted into a lockable steel door. Large Metal Chicken Coop for Backyard Farm Use These walk-in enclosures have good air ventilation and large space for your feathered friends or other small-medium-sized animals. They could be used as a dog cage, rabbit run, or large metal chicken run. Heavy-Duty Frame for Years of Use Metal chicken runs with a strong steel frame will give your farm the sturdy structure it needs for continued years of use. This walk-in poultry house has excellent stability with the extra self-tapping screws. We also added wheels and a sturdy piece of angle iron to the lower front section beneath the door. This adds extra strength and stability when pulling the mobile chicken house around the pasture. Add Extra Protection from the Elements This waterproof cover fits the cage well. It does provide protection from sun, rain, snow but is a little small. If you live in a harsh climate with lots of sun, rain, or snow accumulation, you may want to add an extra rain proof tarp for rainy days or an additional sun-protective cover, Affordable Pastured Poultry Mobile Chicken House With the wide application of these metal chicken coops, easy assembly, and spacious area, it’s the perfect way to provide protection from the outdoor elements. All the while, keeping your costs low on your homestead. The cost of this chicken coop is $139.99 plus $69.99 shipping. Use as a Mobile Chicken House or Chicken Tractor This large metal chicken coop was easily converted into a mobile chicken house. We added self-tapping screws to the high quality steel frame at every snap-pin connect to sturdy it up. In addition to that, we added a piece of super strong, angle iron to the front of the mobile chicken coop, where the pull strap was added. We also added two wheels to the back to make it move easily. These modifications make it easier to raise and butcher pastured poultry from start to finish. Clean Living Environment Having your chickens, be it meat chickens or laying hens, in a mobile chicken house ensures they stay off your porch and have a clean environment. Every day the large metal chicken coop is easily moved to a fresh piece of pasture, giving them access to natural chicken grit that chickens need. This helps keep your feathered friends happy, clean, and fed well. Use for Pastured Egg Laying Hens Not only can you use this for a mobile chicken house for meat chickens, but it can also be used for pastured laying hens with the addition of some lightweight nesting boxes. Pastured laying hens lay 100’s of eggs under the right conditions. Perfect for Outdoor Backyard Farm Use With its great price point, easy set-up, wide application, and heavy-duty metal frame, it’s a great choice for backyard chicken keepers or small farms. With the modifications we made, I have no doubt it will last for years to come. My only regret is getting the flat roof version vs the peak roof version. Changes This Metal Chicken Coop Needs The flat roof. My original thought behind this was that I could hang two feeders, length wise, along the two edges of the flat roof, which I never did. Being that the cover that comes with this chicken coop is waterproof, it actually holds water on the flat roof. We live in a somewhat rainy climate; I may have been better suited to purchase the Is it Your New Metal Chicken Coop? Hopefully this gave you a thorough review of this Affordable Metal Chicken Coop. Happy Homesteading & Chicken Keeping, Jenny @ The GrahamStead Jenny and her family have been homesteading for over 20 years. They are currently farming on their 10-acre Florida farm, that they built from the ground up, 8 years ago, growing 100% of their meat and a lot of their vegetables. From their small herd of Aberdeen Angus Cattle, Pastured Poultry, Sheep, and seasonal pigs, they are able to raise enough meat for the family while selling extra to the community. All the while, striving to butcher at home, as much as possible, and use the bits and pieces of their harvest by preserving food, making bone broth, and (Jenny’s favorite) tanning all kinds of hides!
